IHF SUPER GLOBE 2013 MESSAGE ...
Dear Handball Friends, For the 5th time after 2002, 2010, 2011and 2012 Qatar will host the IHF Super Globe, the top ranked tournament for club teams in the world of handball. Eight teams from all five continents will compete for the trophies at a Super Globe. Qatar showed their strength and perfection in organizing such a major event in 2010, 2011 and 2012 when all participating teams and officials agreed on the highest international standard the Qatar Handball Association and the club Al-Sadd have reached. experience the great and hearty hospitality and the outstanding atmosphere in this handball-loving country again. Hosting team Al-Sadd had recovered from the clashing 19:32 placement round defeat against Al-Rayyan the day before. Thanks to a clear improvement after the break the Qataris secured the seventh place in the final ranking of the IHF Super Globe 2013 in Doha. Like in the preliminary round they left Australian side Sydney University chanceless by a 30:18 victory. So the “Aussie students” like in 2012 missed their final goal to return home with at least one victory –despite a strong performance before the break.

Like Al-Sadd, like Al-Rayyan: Both Qatari teams have won their final placement matches at the IHF Super Globe in Doha on Friday (30 August). But as Al-Sadd had taken a clear victory against Sydney in the 7( match before, Al-Rayyan needed to shiver until the final whistle of the 5/6 match until their 30:29 win over Pan-American continental club champions had been secured. Taubate’s catch-up chase came too late.

Qatari wild card team of El-Jaish finished third ranked at the IHF Super Globe 2013 in Doha, Qatar. The team of coach Akked Kamel defeated the African club champions Etoile Sportive du Sahel by 27:20 to secure the bronze rank, the podium place and the prize money of 150.000US Dollar in a well-deserved way
Barcelona Super Globe for the First Time
FC Barcelona are the winners of the 2013 IHF Super Globe in Doha, Qatar. The Catalans took the upper hand in a thrilling final of two Super Globe debutants against HSV Hamburg by a 27:25 victory. In the final stages Barca were shaken, but did not fall. The Catalans took revenge for the defeat in the Champions League final in June, when they were beaten by Hamburg after extra time – and they received the winner’s prize money of 400.000 USD
